Traditional Acupuncture

Acupuncture (Latin for "needle stiching") is an alternative therapy originating in ancient China (more than 5,000 years old) that treats patients by manipulating thin, solid needles which are inserted into the acupuncture points in the skin. Usually, this procedure does not cause any pain at all. Acupuncture's efficacy can be seen in the relief of certain types of pain and diseases. According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), stimulating these points can correct imbalances in the flow of Qi through channels known as meridians and carry energy to the organs of the body. So, the flow of Qi has a predictable route like a well-laid out railway track. The Qi runs along lines, the meridians. Of these, some are connected to each of the major organs and there are numerous interconnections and stops en route. These stops are known as acu-points. When stimulated in a specific way for a specific time, these acu-points can kick-start energy blockages and stagnations and increase the flow of bio-energy.

If the amount of circulating Qi is too big or too small in our system or if the flow of Qi is disrupted, your well-being can be affected and diseases can develop from an interruption in the harmonious flow of bio-energy, Qi.

The therapist gently manipulates the amount and circulation of Qi in the patient's system with acupuncture needles. Acupuncture is safe when administered by a well-trained therapist using single-use needles.

Diseases that can be treated with acupuncture are manifold, e.g. various types of pain, functional and nervous complaints as well as allergies. Activity of the meridians can be stimulated by additional therapies such as cupping or electrical stimulation. Moreover, you can beneficially influence them by doing Tai Chi, Qi Gong or exercises for muscle relaxation like autogenic training.

You should enjoy peace and quiet on the day of your treatment and allow sufficient time. Please bring along a bath towel you can lie on or use as a blanket. Just relax and you will feel the benefit from the flow of your bio-energy, the so-called Qi feeling (warmth, flow of bio-energy, slight pressure).
